ACADEMIC EVENTS

During the year, our Vice-President of University Affairs works alongside the exec and the professors to organize academic events. These events allow students to meet teachers outside of the classroom setting and to build connections for future endeavors. It also grants first year HSS students the chance to meet other fellow HSS’ers, allowing them to get helpful advice for their university year.

EVENTS

BEER AND PIZZA

The beer and pizza is a great event that happens near the end of October. Professors and students can enjoy another casual meet up while enjoying free beer and pizza. We announce the HSSA by-election results. We hope to see there!

CUCOH

The Canadian Undergraduate Conference on Healthcare (CUCOH) is a rare find. It combines excessive partying with tons of learning. Students from the best university in Ottawa, and some from Carleton (yea we kinda have to share with them) get on a bus and head to Queen’s University for two nights. Lots of hotel room parties and some of the best you’ll ever hear. Want to join and show those raven crows what a Geegee is? Go to www.cucoh.com for more information.

LECTURE SERIE

All year long, you will have a chance to attend different lectures given by amazing professors or people working in the health field. These lectures will be a unique opportunity for you to discover different areas of research as well as hear about many different health topics.

UOHS

The University of Ottawa Healthcare Symposium (UOHS) is very similar to CUCOH but, this time it is our UOttawa students that organize it. Which clearly means it will be much better than any other symposium organized somewhere else. The topics range from health care system organizations to the use of viral vectors in the treatment of cancer. If you want to get your brain tickle, make sure you attend the conference. There is nothing else like it!

WINE AND CHEESE

The Health Sciences Student Association (HSSA) cordially invites you to our annual Wine and Cheese! This event will take place October 3rd from 4:00 – 8:00pm at Café Nostalgica on campus. Professors, students and faculty members are invited. This is the perfect opportunity for you to get to know your professors, as well as enjoy complimentary hors d’oeuvre and wine. We will also be announcing the newly elected Year Representatives for the HSSA! Also, semi-formal attire is recommended. We hope to see you there!

SOCIAL EVENTS

Throughout the year we work really hard to organize some great social events for all our HSS students. These events allow students to have a great time with friends and blow off some university steam in a safe environment.

EVENTS

BAR NIGHTS AND MONTREAL

Your Socials will be throwing various pub nights throughout the year so that you can get your drink on, make a fool of yourself, and bust out your best/worst dance moves. We even go to Montreal for a weekend in November so you underage HSSers can party with the best of us! If you have any theme ideas that you would like to propose, don’t hesitate to shoot us an email at vpsocial.hssa@gmail.com and we will get in touch with you!

(The Health Sciences Student Association organises a clubing night at Montreal and coordinates transportation and hotel.)

HALLOWEEN BASH - 'PICK YOUR POISON' HALLOWEEN PARTY

The Halloween Bash is the first big party of the year and sells out every time. It is a great costumed night spent in a club downtown Ottawa - definitely not a party to miss.

HSSA’s Halloween bash happening at Liquor Store Party Bar on October 31st, 2017! The theme is “Pick your poison” and tickets will be $10 and available for pick up at THN034! It’s a 19+ event and I.D. is required.

SAUNDERS FARM FRIGHT NIGHT

The HSSA is taking you to Ottawa’s spookiest Halloween destination, Saunders Farm! You’re in for a night filled with spooky activities such as the barn of terror, cemetery scare zone, fear houses, haunted hay rides, and more! If you’re brave enough to join us onOctober 29th, 2017 reserve your spot and get your $25 ticket at the HSSA office (THN034)!

WINTER FORMAL

This is your time to shine! Bring out your suits and your fancy dresses and show them off to your friends. HSS knows how to get classy but still throw a good party while at it. We will be sharing the stage with other faculties so we better show them what we’re made of!

The winter formal is an evening event organized in partnership with the other Health Sciences Faculty programs. It is a classy night in a beautiful venue, topped with a three course meal and some great dancing.

More information to come during the winter session...

PHILANTHROPIC EVENTS

We hold our philanthropic events close to heart. For this reason, our VP-Philanthropic works hard to organize events to sensitize and inform students to important causes, most notability Shinerama.

EVENTS

BOTTLE DRIVE

Are your empty bottles starting to accumulate in your house? If so, donate your empties to HSSA’s bottle drive for CHEO! We will be accepting beer bottles, wine & spirit bottles, and beer cans! Bring your donations to THN034, or if you live in residence, we will be coming by every Saturday until the end of November to collect your bottles! Don’t have any bottles, but would still like to donate to the cause? Feel free to drop by the HSSA office and donate any spare change that you have!

INTERNATIONAL MAN'S DAY

For some guys, Movember isn’t the best month because it ruins their look, but hey, it’s all for a good cause. We will be throwing an amazing Movember party in which we’ll raise awareness and money for men’s health and those states will be more than celebrated!

This Movember, we’re raising money in the best way possible - by watching our very own GeeGees hockey team absolutely crush the Ravens! The game of the year will be taking place at Minto Sports Complex on November 10th at 7:30pm. Come out to support a great cause! https://www.facebook.com/events/127258061309857/

How do you buy your ticket to the coolest event?

It’s simple. Go to tickets.geegees.ca and the code is MHKYMOV17 - $4

Shinerama is Canada's largest post-secondary fundraiser in support of Cystic Fibrosis Canada. Cystic fibrosis (CF) is the most common fatal genetic disease affecting Canadian children and young adults. There is no cure. We do many fund raising events through out the year. One of those is the Shinerama morning which happens during 101 Week. Students take the streets of downtown Ottawa and show off their talents to raise money. For more information on Shinerama, please visit their official website at http://www.shinerama.ca/.
